Welcome to Nani Nā Pua ʻIlima
Hula in San Antonio
If you want to learn hula and discover the history behind the mele (song), join Nani nā Pua ʻIlima's hula classes in San Antonio!
Our classes not only includes hula, but goes beyond the basics by weaving Hawaiian language and history into everything we do. We acknowledge the composers, lyricist, the person we learned the hula from, and who choreographed the hula. It is our belief that acknowledging and giving credit to those who came before us is extremely important. It is because of these ancestors, kūpuna, and kumu that we are able to dance these beautiful hula. They are our foundation and roots which provides authenticity to our hula.
Our repertoire includes but is not limited to implement hula, hula noho (sitting) and hula ‘auana (modern).
Our student ages range from 3 to 70. There is a class that fits your skill level from beginning to the advanced dancer.
Hele mai (come) and be a part of aloha.
Our Mission
The preservation, perpetuation, and promotion of the Hawaiian culture through hula, language, chant, and mele while maintaining traditions.
Children's Hula
San Antonio!
Our keiki learn hula that teaches them Hawaiian numbers, body parts and colors. We read books and sing mele (songs) to learn about Hawaiian traditions and practices. Hawaiian language is woven into all aspects of our program. Our children’s classes are fun, engaging, and challenging.
We dance to acknowledge the history of Hawai’i while rejuvenating old place names and recognizing the beauty of all the Hawaiian Islands.
